Royal Interior Design Trends | Platinum Jubilee

2022 is the year of the Royal Family with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee coming up this week!

Queen Elizabeth has been in power for what will be 70 years now, showcasing great leadership and determination throughout. 

As the theme is royalty it makes sense for us to cover the history of the British Royal Family. Specifically their history in designing their luxurious real estate, such as Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

How Has Royal Interior Designs Changed? 

Firstly there are the Tudors. They were present in the late 1400s until the early 1600s. Their resources were limited, however they made do with what they had.

Tudor royalty tended to opt for more darker tones found usually in the wood. Designs from this era are so popular they are still going in the 21st century. With Tudor home designs signifying comfort and tradition within Britain. 

Moving onto the Victorian era they took a slightly different approach to interior home design by the early 1900s. 

They opted for darker tones early on, however by the end Victorians had adapted a more colourful approach to their design. 

As you can further imagine the royal estates are a lot different to how they were back then. 

Today, the Royal Family have turned their favourite properties into colourful vibrant experiences for both their family and also their supporters and tourists. 

With many materials being sourced worldwide and much of the original designs and objects being preserved in places like Buckingham Palace. 

One thing the Royals haven’t changed is the size of their rooms. They have always remained larger than life, giving the inhabitants plenty of space. 

Sleeping quarters have remained the same also, with beds usually being made up of 4 wooden posts and a large, luxurious mattress fit for royalty!

Which Era Was The Most Stylish?

Since the start of the British Monarchy, there have been a number of rulers who have led Britain. 

Some have left positive tastes whilst others, not so much.

It has been described that the Regency Era of British History is the most stylish and luxurious. King George IV led Britain in this time period. 

Designs and their finishes were maximised, boasting life-like features. 

This part of history was very out there, meaning royals such as King George would only have the finest of materials and objects in their manors and estates.
