The official slogan for world sleep day 2022 is “quality sleep, sound mind, happy world” and we love it! Not only does this year's slogan promote healthy sleep and happiness, but it also spreads an important message about mental health which is now more important than ever.

Here at Next Divan, we are passionate about sleep, it’s the main aim behind everything we do. So we take World Sleep Day very seriously! Just like all other national holidays we know and love, World Sleep Day should be celebrated too, whether you want to sleep all day or throw the ultimate sleepover party, our guide to celebrate will give you some great ideas to include this holiday in your celebrations year on year. 

The whole purpose of World Sleep Day is to, of course, sleep! So why not dedicate a little time to yourself this year to have a few extra dreamy hours or minutes in bed as a lie-in, let the alarm clock snooze and indulge in a little but not too much extra sleep! Switch it up with a breakfast in bed treat, with all your favourite early morning goodies with your favourite show on the tv - bliss!

You can even take your World Sleep Day up a notch and invite others to join in on the fun! Throw a sleepover party with your family, best pals or your roomie to celebrate the world of sleep. Get everybody to bring their pillows, duvets and snuggle up in your PJs. Join together for a nap or simply just have a duvet day watching your favourite movies with warm milk and cookies. 

Take the day off to educate yourself on important sleep facts and figures, as well implementing a new routine to ensure you have the healthiest sleep possible for both your mental and physical health. Write out your sleep goals for the year and what you hope to gain from the best sleeping experience possible. Gain a better understanding of mattress compositions and what mattress you require the most to reach your ultimate sleep goals.

How does sleep impact mental health?

This month's World Sleep Day 2022 motto is “quality sleep, sound mind, happy world” which emphasises the fact that your sleep health can massively impact your peace of mind and overall mental health!

If you find yourself asking “why do I still feel tired after eight hours of sleep?” It may be because of stress or mental health concerns, which is why this year's World Sleep Day motto is so important.

If you find yourself struggling with your sleep routine, you are statistically more likely to feel anxious, depressed and suicidal. In a recent study, adults with lower stress levels and no mental health concerns are likely to have a healthy 7-8 hours sleep on average vs the 5-6 hours adults with high-stress levels and mental health conditions have per night. 

This year and the years to come, we want our customers and community to understand and consider the impact lack of sleep and low quality sleep has on your mental health. Following this year's motto, we want you to make a conscious effort to have at least 8-9 hours of sleep per night, input a regular routine including relaxation and stress relief techniques such as deep-breathing exercises, hot baths, reading and sleep-inducing scents.
